Callejón's midfield performance at São Paulo
In the summer of 2017, the Chilean forward, Jorge "Callejón" Elías, signed with Santos FC in Brazil for a transfer fee that was estimated to be around €4 million. The move was seen as a significant step up for Callejón, who had previously played for clubs like Deportivo de La Coruña and Club Atlético Peñarol.
One of the main reasons why Callejón decided to join Santos FC was because he wanted to play in a more physical environment. He felt that his style of play would be better suited to the Brazilian league than other leagues in Europe. However, despite his desire to succeed, Callejón struggled to make an impact during his first season with Santos FC.
His performances were not very impressive, and he only scored three goals and provided one assist in 31 matches. His lack of form led many fans to question whether he was worth the high price tag that had been paid for him. Despite this, Santos FC did not want to let go of Callejón and continued to support him throughout the season.
However,Saudi Pro League Hotspot things took a turn for the better when Callejón joined the team's reserve squad in January 2018. There, he was able to rediscover his form and prove that he could still contribute to the team. In just six months, Callejón managed to score nine goals and provide four assists in 16 matches.
This success earned him a call-up to the Santos FC first-team squad, where he made his debut on April 9, 2018. Although he failed to score or assist in his debut match against Internacional, his performances over the next few weeks showed that he was back on track.
Overall, Callejón's time at Santos FC was a mixed bag. While he struggled initially, he was eventually able to find his form and help the team achieve its goals. His ability to adapt to different environments and his willingness to work hard for his team is what made him such a valuable player.
